This small commune, which barely reaches 8 thousand inhabitants, is located 32 km (20 miles) from Angol and 124 (77 miles) from Temuco. It constitutes a meeting point for the touristic flow coming from the Biobío area which extends towards Lumaco, Purén and Ercilla. Its economy is based on the development of the agricultural industry, forest and cattle farming activities to which can be added on a smaller scale; commerce and services. Temperatures are high in the area during summer months and present a complex topography, with narrow and twisting valleys that surround the Rehue river course.

Renaico is the entry point for Malleco, through the eastern drainage basin in the Nahuelbuta range. It has paved and expedite roads all through the year, which communicate the main populated centers of the province towards the south, which extends to the Biobío region. It has a railroad station that connects it with other locations in the north bank of the Biobío river, Concepcion and Talcahuano can be found 22 kilometers (14 miles) from the city of Angol, the provincial capital, and 156 kilometers (97 miles) from Temuco.
