This small commune, which barely reaches 8 thousand inhabitants, is located 32 km (20 miles) from Angol and 124 (77 miles) from Temuco. It constitutes a meeting point for the touristic flow coming from the Biobío area which extends towards Lumaco, Purén and Ercilla. Its economy is based on the development of the agricultural industry, forest and cattle farming activities to which can be added on a smaller scale; commerce and services. Temperatures are high in the area during summer months and present a complex topography, with narrow and twisting valleys that surround the Rehue river course.
