The Araucanía region is the territory with the greatest presence of native population of the country and it is the cradle of the Mapuche people or "people of the land", the largest and most representative amount in Chile.
This people’s traditions and knowledge are still alive, especially in nearby areas such as Temuco, Budi lake on the coast, around Nahuelbuta to the north of the region; in Villarrica, Pucón, Curarrehue and the Galletué and Icalma lakes in the Andean-Lacustrine area.
