Most of the nature in Araucanía is being protected by the government in 13 wild areas. These cover the ninth part of the regional territory as well as others which are private and also support preservation. Most of them have good access and in total sum up to 60 walkable trails, many of them connected to form one of the most attractive trekking networks of the Southern Cone. These are mainly located in the Andean-Lacustrine area forming a biological high value corridor where it is possible to observe valuable native flora and fauna species, as araucarias, orchids, foxes and condors.
