The Caracautín and Lonquimay communes, which are connected by Las Raíces tunnel, the second longest tunnel in Latin America with four point five kilometers (2.79 miles), provide a wide offering that in general represents the identity of the Pehuenche people, natives of the area. The presence of several volcanoes stand out, especially the Llaima and the Lonquimay volcanoes, that attract travelers, curious people and scientists that come every year to study their high volcanic activity.
