Curarrehue

Its name in mapudungun means “space or place of new stones” and it is a spot not to be missed in the region to those who are on their way to Argentina, through the Mamuil Malal border crossing. This strategic location is one of its strengths, since it allows the commune to capture the touristic flow that travels along this corridor. It is located 145 km from Temuco and it was founded in 1912 by peasant settlers, although it was officially acknowledged in 1981. Its population rises above 7 thousand inhabitants and its main activities are related to the agricultural industry and cattle farming. Furthermore, it has a good touristic infrastructure and, thanks to its natural environment, it is an important starting point for adventure tours with attractive circuits which can take from one to several days.
